(Malibu, CA) - San Francisco held a 34-28 half-time advantage, but couldn't hold it in the second, falling to Pepperdine 72-67 in West Coast Conference action at Gersten Pavilion on Saturday afternoon. Three Dons (14-15, 5-9 WCC) put up double figures in points and another added 10 rebounds in the contest.

Senior Dominique Carter scored 15 on the day with two rebounds and two assists. Carter sits in fourth place on the WCC Charts with 1,782 career points. She needs 17 points to pass Santa Clara's Melissa King (1990-93/1,798) for third.

Junior Shay Rollins led all Dons with 17 points, 12 of which came in the first half, adding two rebounds and an assist. Rollins had a career high five three pointers in the game. Senior guard Nykia Peace added 10 points, two rebound and five assists. Junior forward Necolia Peace brought down 10 boards, to go along with nine points and an assist, all in the second half.

Pepperdine's Daphanie Kennedy, the league's top scorer, had 25 points and Miranda Ayim pulled down a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

USF was down by six with five minutes remaining in the first, but went on an 8-0 run to end the half, six points of which came from three Rollins 3-pointers. The Dons had the 53-52 lead with less than 10 minutes left in the game before a Teena Wickett layup at 9:04 gave Pepperdine a lead they would not relinquish.

After shooting .406 (13-32) in the first half, the Dons slowed down, only putting in 10-30 (.333) in the second. They shot better from the free throw line (.750/9-12) and behind the arc (.480/12-25), but none were enough to overtake the Waves.

Pepperdine shot .529 (27-51) from the field, .550 (11-20) from the line and .538 (7-13) from 3-point range. The Waves (37) had one more rebound than the Dons (36) but also had more turnovers, 13-10.

No. 7 seed USF meets No. 2 seed Santa Clara next Thursday in Game one of the West Coast Conference Tournament at Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego. Tip-off is set for 12:00 PM.
