San Francisco began the 2008 spring season on the right foot defeating Portland State, 6-1, and Portland, 4-3, in women's tennis action Friday and Saturday.

USF kicked off the bout against the Vikings with wins from the top four positions as Jenni Heinser downed PSU's Lacey Pflibsen 6-2, 6-2; Emma Taylor topped Stephanie Fuchs 6-3, 6-2; Mylene Martin defeated Molly Knox 6-0, 6-0; and Jenny Sperry surpassed Anya Dalkin in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 10-5. Jessy Mekpoh, at No. 6, finished out singles for USF with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Caitlin Stocking.

In doubles, Heinser/Taylor and Martin/Sperry won versus Pflibsen/Knox and Stocking/Ferry, respectively.

On Saturday, in WCC competition versus the Pilots, Heinser and Martin opened with wins versus Megan Sporndli and Lindsey Griffin. Sperry would win 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 over Stefanie Doolittle. The Pilots would win three matches of their own as Anna Gullickson, Christina Feyen and Jenna Tanzer were all victorious.

With the score tied the Dons and Pilots looked to doubles. Heinser/Taylor and Martin/Sperry came out winners for the second straight dual to give USF the extra point and the win.

USF competes Sunday versus Utah and Monday against Oregon. Both duals are set to take place at the University of Oregon.
