Day One at Arkansas Strong for SFA

Jan. 25, 2008

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Sophomore thrower Frednisha Marshall led the charge for the SFA men's and women's track and field team Friday in the open day of competition at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. Marshall won her second individual title in the weight throw in as many weeks when she recorded a toss of 60-1.75.

Junior Aaron Harlan has placed himself in strong position for the heptathlon individual title as he enters Saturday's final three events. Harlan is currently tops on the leaderboard after scoring 2,968 points in the opening day. Harlan jumped to the front of the pack with an individual title in the 60-meter dash. Sophomore Chris Jones enters Saturday's final round in fourth place after a very strong performance in the shot put. Jones won the event with a throw of 45-3.50.

On the women's side, sophomore Tabitha Riley recorded a third-place finish in the women's pentathlon. Riley stayed among the leaders by recording second-place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles and the 800-meter run.

Other Ladyjacks that recorded strong showings on the first day were seniors Ashley Monteau, Megan Denman and Audrey Azu. Monteau finished third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:58.13. Denman and Azu both cleared a height of 5-4.25 in the high jump to finish fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the men's weight throw Matt Langdon improved upon his mark in the weight throw by almost two feet from the Leonard Hilton Invitational last week. He recorded a throw of 58-11.25 to finish third overall.

SFA will return to action Saturday for the final day of competition at the Razorback Invitational. Competition will begin at 11 a.m. with the final three events of the men's heptathlon.
