SFA Track & Field Names MVPs

NACOGDOCHES - Senior hurdler Zach Ross, and sophomores Silent-Joy Egboba-Waye and Frednisha Marshall were named team MVPs head track and field coach Phil Olson announced Wednesday afternoon. A 2008 team co-captain, Ross finished off his collegiate career with his best season in a Lumberjack uniform. Ross earned All-Southland Conference honors in the 60-meter hurdles, 400-meter dash and as a member of the 4X400-meter relay team during the indoor season, and in the 110-meter hurdles and the 4X400-meter relay during the outdoor season. Ross qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in both the 110 and 400-meter hurdles. He earned all-region honors with his seventh-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles. Ross also recorded the "B" standard for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 110-meter hurdles with his time of 13.96 at the John McDonnell Invitational. Egboba-Waye and Marshall were named co-MVPs after an impressive 2008 campaign. Marshall dominated the indoor season in the weight throw setting a new school and conference record, winning the conference individual title and recording an NCAA provisional mark in the event. A three-time SLC Athlete of the Week selection, Marshall was named 2008 SLC Outstanding Field Performer after tacking on an All-SLC finish in the shot put as well. In addition to her exploits during the indoor season, Marshall added to her all-conference accolades during the outdoor campaign. She recorded a conference runner-up finish in the shot put and hammer throw during the outdoor season. Egboba-Waye had a breakout season during her second year on campus. After recording top-five finishes in the long jump and 60-meter hurdles at the SLC Indoor Championships, Egboba-Waye wrote her name in the SFA record books during the outdoor season. She recorded a school-record time of 13.79 in the 100-meter hurdles to finish second overall and qualify for the NCAA Regional Championships. Egboba-Waye also recorded an SLC runner-up finish, and qualified for the regional meet in the long jump. -SFA- |
