SFA Sweeps SLC Player of the Week honors For Second Time This Season

Oct. 1, 2007

FRISCO, Texas - Senior Jami Hill and junior Lauren Railey have been named the Southland Conference's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

It is the first time Hill has received the honor, while it is the second time Railey has earned the award.

Railey had her best week of the season in leading the Ladyjacks to three straight sweeps over UT-Pan Am, UTSA, and TAMUCC. On Tuesday the all-conference junior became only the fifth Ladyjack to ever accumulate 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs for her career with a 12-kill, 17-dig performance against UTPA. She followed that up with a 20-kill effort against UTSA, and became the first Ladyjack this season to total 20 kills in a match and tied the most kills by a SLC player in a three-game match this season.

For the week she hit at a .402 clip, only making six errors in 87 attempts.

Hill's earned her first SLC Defensive Player of the Week honor after her defensive prowess was instrumental in helping SFA its three sweeps. After picking up 10 digs against UTPA, Hill dawned the libero jersey for the first time this season and promptly stepped up her game. She kept alive a season-high 22 digs in consecutive sweeps over UT-San Antonio and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in helping extend SFA's SLC win streak to 55 matches.

SFA is currently riding an eight-match win streak and has won its last six via sweep. The Ladyjacks travel to Arlington and San Marcos this weekend to square off with two of the top contenders for this year's SLC crown, UTA and Texas State.
