Aztec Baseball Hosts Foster Family Day at the Game

May 12, 2008

SAN DIEGO - The SD County Foster Home Licensing program, in conjunction with the San Diego State baseball program, is sponsoring 100 foster family members at the Aztecs' game against nationally-ranked Long Beach State on Tuesday, May 13, at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium. This Foster Family Day at the Game falls during National Foster Care Month during which the organization publicizes its year-round efforts to recruit foster parents.

"This is an important aspect of family life here in San Diego and we're happy to be involved with this project," said SDSU head coach Tony Gwynn. "A member of our baseball staff is involved with foster parenting and adoption, and we've seen first-hand what a positive effect it has on the parents as well as the kids."

There are nearly 6,000 children in out of home care in San Diego County. Over 1,600 licensed foster families provide care for these abused and neglected children. San Diego County celebrates the commitment and dedication of these loving families, and encourages others to become part of the team to care for and protect our most vulnerable children.

"In San Diego County, more loving families are needed to care for our abused and neglected children," noted Ann Fox, Manager of Foster Home Licensing. "We are asking concerned individuals to join our foster parent team and become a foster parent."
