Kevin O'Connell Talks Football With GoAztecs.com

Jan. 28, 2008

GoAztecs.com: What he's been doing since the season ended:

Kevin O'Connell: "It's been crazy. I went to Arizona about a week before Christmas. I have family out there and that's where I've been training. I trained there up until I left for Hawaii on (Jan. 5). I had a great week of practice out there, had a good game and elevated myself a little bit from what I heard. Then I flew a red-eye to Houston the next day and really enjoyed it out there. I had another good week of practice and we won the game. Now I'm back in Arizona training and I go to the combine in Indianapolis on (Feb. 25)."

On the level of competition he has been playing with in the senior bowls:

"Yeah, that's the thing. With every little drill, perfection is the norm. The very good is now normal. It makes you raise your play. Now everybody on the team is a leader, everyone is a captain. It's just a matter of, not only fitting in, but trying to excel and be above average to what is average now."

On his typical day right now:

"I wake up in the morning and meals are delivered to my little apartment I share with (Univ. of Pittsburgh tight end) Darrell Strong. The meals are not always very good, it's normally pretty healthy. Then I normally run from about 8:30 to 10:30, then lift from about 11 to 12:30. Then I eat and have some sort of throwing session in the afternoon. It's five or six days like that. On top of that I'll be out in Arizona for the Super Bowl week. My agent has me set up to go to some functions and meet people. Scottsdale is a cool town and a lot like San Diego. Everybody enjoys themselves. I really like where I'm at right now."

On looking back on being an Aztec:

"Things couldn't have gone better. It means a lot coming back today and seeing all the coaches and teammates. I'm just looking forward to getting back from the combine and coming out here for the Pro Day, kind of being around the program for a little bit and watch them get better."
