Oakland Raiders Wide Receiver Chaz Schilens
On the NFL Draft:
"I knew I would end up somewhere, it was just a matter of where I was going to be at. I knew there were a couple of teams were interested that had some later picks, so I wasn't losing that much hope. I started to worry a little bit, but it was really out of my hands, there wasn't anything I could do about it. For me, at the end of the day, I knew, whether I was drafted or free agency, I was going to be with a team."
On the workout process:
"A lot of the reason why me and Brett got so much attention was because we were able to go out there and be a part of what Kevin (O'Connell) was doing. A lot of people did come out to see him; that was known. ... But we just turned it into a positive thing. A lot of the workouts that we showed up to, (scouts) were coming out for (O'Connell) and didn't know exactly who we were. We kind of had to make the best of it. I felt by the time some of the workouts were over, (scouts) were kind of scratching their heads and saying maybe we should consider these guys. It put us in a better situation because the more teams we worked out with, the more workouts (O'Connell) had. It kind of got teams talking and raising their eyebrows wondering what's over here."
On what he has heard from the Oakland Raiders:
"I had a really brief conversation with Coach (Lane) Kiffin when I went up there and visited with Oakland. He told me just to work hard and that I would be playing a lot of special teams; just try to figure out any way I could fit into the offense. I talked to the special teams coach and he said to be prepared to play a big role for them. It's going to be a fight, but I just find a way to contribute to the team."
New England Patriots Quarterback Kevin O'Connell
On working out with Chaz Schilens and Brett Swain:
"I can't tell you how many times we left the workout with a particular team and either a coach or scout from that team would ask, `Who is that guy again? Number 16 (Brett Swain) and number 1 (Schilens), right?' Then all of a sudden they would call back a week before the draft and ask what kind of a guy Chaz is like, what kind of worker is Brett. It speaks so highly of these guys who didn't go to the (NFL) combine, (especially) in a draft where receivers didn't really go off the board. I think in a normal year, these guys would have been fourth- or fifth-round picks."
On his workout with the New England Patriots:
"Out of all the workouts, the one with (New England), it was just mechanical and methodical. He prepared me for everything I was going to do. When we went up into the classroom, (we) just broke down tape. It was just more getting to know one another than X's and O's. I could just tell by the style, the way he went about things, the reason why he's had so much success with the guys playing for him."
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Brett Swain
On the workout process:
"It was really funny because when these coaches showed up to work out Kevin (O'Connell), they would come up to me and Chaz (Schilens) and say, `Nice to meet you. Have you guys even graduated yet?' They didn't even know who we were. They had absolutely no clue."
On what he has heard from the Green Bay Packers:
"I have heard quotes and words from my receiver coach that for me and their offense, they want to use me like a Wes Welker-type receiver, a slot guy. They also want me to get involved in a lot of special teams, which I was really excited to do. When I went out there to visit with them, one of my key things was, `Where is the special teams coach? I want to meet this guy.' I want to get on the field any way I possibly can."
