Former Aztecs in AFL Scheduled to Be Televised On ESPN2 Tonight

SAN DIEGO - Former San Diego State football standouts and current Arizona Rattlers offensive lineman Johnathan Ingram and linebacker Kurt Kahui will play Monday, June 16, on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. PT. The Rattlers will host the Colorado Crush in tonight's game. Ingram started 32 of the 36 games in which he appeared with the Aztecs. He started all 13 games at center as a senior in 2002. and was named to the Rimington Trophy watch list, recognizing him as one of college footballs top centers. As a junior in 2001, Ingram started 11 games at center and earned honorable mention All-Mountain West Conference honors, while also being named the team's most improved player. As a sophomore in 2000, he started eight games at offensive guard and missed three others with a knee sprain. He played in four games for 127 snaps as a redshirt freshman the previous season.
Kahui played in 31 games for the Aztecs over his career, finishing with 105 tackles (60 solo, 43 assisted), 11.5 tackles for loss for minus-67 yards, five sacks, two pass breakups, a quarterback hurry, and one fumble recovery. As a senior, he tallied 72 tackles, five tackles for loss, and three sacks. He was named Mountain West Conference all-second team as a defensive lineman. As a Junior in 2004, Kahui started five games for the Aztecs, and played in 10 overall. He finished the season with 25 tackles, including 15 solo stops, one fumble recovery, 3.5 tackles for loss, and a sack. In 2003, he played in four games and was credited with five tackles, including a pair of stops against defending national champion Ohio State . He added a sack and two tackles for loss before his season ended prematurely when he suffered a broken arm at Utah (10/11003). He played in five games as a freshman in 2002, making three tackles and one tackle for loss.
Ingram and Kahui are two of six former Aztecs playing in the Arena Football League this season, which ranks San Diego State in a tie for second among colleges with active players on AFL rosters. The last time these two teams matched up, the Crush came out on top with a score of 59-35. The Rattlers are 7-6-1 with three games left in the regular season. |
