SDSU Men's Tennis Participates in ITA Indoor Draft

June 10, 2008

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State was among 60 men's tennis programs that took part in the inaugural Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kick-Off Draft, held June 5 to determine teams for next year's ITA National Team Indoor Championships, Feb. 13-16, 2009, in Chicago, Ill.

SDSU drew the 40th position of 45 at-large teams and elected to travel to Waco, Texas, where it will battle Georgia Tech on Jan. 30, 2009, at the Baylor Tennis Center. If the Aztecs defeat the Yellow Jackets, they will meet the winner of the Baylor-Utah match the following day for the right to advance to the Windy City. Four teams are guaranteed two matches at each of the 15 sites as first-round winners and losers face one another in the second round.

The 60-team field, including 15 host schools, was selected based on regional and national rankings in the final ITA poll of the 2007-08 campaign. SDSU received a No. 57 ranking after compiling a 13-12 overall mark, its 11th straight season with a winning record.

The Aztecs last competed in the National Team Indoor Championships in 2003, when the event was held in Louisville, Ky.
