Aztec Rowers Win Four of Six Races at City Championships

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State rowing team won four of the six races at the San Diego City Championships Saturday on Mission Bay in San Diego. The Aztecs picked up firsts in the second varsity eight race and all three novice events. In the second varsity eight race, SDSU took first of three with a time of 6 minutes, 15.0 seconds, narrowly edging second-place San Diego (6:16.6) by less than two seconds. UC San Diego was third in 7:08.0 San Diego State also picked up victories in the novice eight, second novice eight and novice four races. In the novice eight race, the Aztecs clocked in with a time of 6:32.9, followed by UC San Diego (6:45.18) and San Diego (6:55.9). SDSU won the second novice eight race in 6:52.8, outdistancing San Diego (7:09.3) and UC San Diego (7:27.21), and was victorious by a large margin in the novice four race (San Diego State - 7:36.4, UC San Diego - 8:12.8, UC San Diego Lightweights - 8:37.4). The Aztecs also picked up a pair of runner-up finishes in the varsity eight race and in the varsity four event, trailing only San Diego in 6:17.5 and 7:30.9, respectively. San Diego State will be back in the water on May 3-4 when it competes in the WIRA Championships.
