Aztec Women's Golf Tied For Third After Day One Of Spring-Opener

Feb. 11, 2008

BEAUMONT, Calif. - The San Diego State women's golf team is tied for third place after the first 18 holes of the fourth annual Lady Braveheart Classic Monday in Beaumont, Calif. The Aztecs, who carded a 36-over 324 to tie with Cal Baptist, are just one stroke behind second place Portland and 11 in back of day one leader Cal Poly, which fired a 25-over 313 at the par-72, 6,089-yard Oak Valley Golf Club.

SDSU was led by redshirt sophomore Petra Cole (San Diego, Calif.), who had a 6-over 78 to put her in a five-way tie for ninth place on the individual leaderboard. Junior Jackie Kazarian (Dana Point, Calif.) added a first round 81, just one stroke better than freshman Stephanie Arcala's (Oceanside, Calif.) 82. Freshman Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.) and junior Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.) rounded out the five golfers who competed toward the team total with scores of 83 and 85.

Six other Aztecs are competing as individuals, including junior Alana Erlandson (Palm Desert, Calif.) and senior Kim Carmody (Palatine, Ill.), who each logged first-round efforts 81 to tie for 21st place. Freshman Kaitlen Miyajima (Wailuku, Hawaii) was two strokes behind the upperclassmen with an 83, followed by senior Anna Booth (86), redshirt sophomore Ashley Wood (87) and freshman Faith De Guzman (87).

Only two golfers in the 17-school, 101-player field recorded at least even-par scores, as British Columbia's Kaitlin Troop and Cal State Bakersfield Adriana Niclotti are tied for first place with matching 72s.

SDSU will look to make up ground in its quest for a third-straight Lady Braveheart Classic team title in Tuesday's second and final round at the Oak Valley Golf Club.
