Roberts Leads SDSU Women's Golf In First Round Of Fresno State Invite

FRESNO, Calif. - San Diego State freshman Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.) carded a first round 4-over 76 to lead the Aztecs in day one action Monday at the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational at the par-72, 6,072-yard Copper River Country Club in Fresno, Calif. Roberts is tied for 28th place with four other golfers, while the Aztecs are 16th in the team standings at 32-over 320. Roberts' 76 is just one stroke off her career best of 75, which she logged at the Aztec Fall Classic in mid-October. The La Costa Canyon graduate had 14 pars on the day to go with four bogeys. Roberts' classmate, freshman Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.), was San Diego State's second-best golfer, firing an 8-over 80. Arcala had a pair of birdies, but struggled on the back nine with four bogeys and a pair of double-bogeys on the par-4 12th and 15th holes. Three Aztecs are tied for 69th place at 10-over 82, including junior Jackie Kazarian (Dana Point, Calif.), redshirt sophomore Petra Cole (San Diego, Calif.) and freshman Kaitlen Miyajima (Wailuku, Hawaii), who had two of SDSU's three other birdies on the day. Kansas leads the tournament at 7-over 295 with a four-stroke advantage over Tulsa and host Fresno State. Long Beach State's Lindsey McAtee was one of just two golfers to finish the day under par, holding a two-stroke advantage over Kansas' Meghna Bal with a 3-under 69. SDSU plays the second and final round of the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational on Tuesday morning, beginning at 8 a.m. First-round scores with relation to par Feb. 25, at the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational, played at the par-72, 6,072-yard Copper River Country Club in Fresno, Calif.
