San Diego State Sweeps MWC Swimmer and Diver of the Week Honors
Feb. 6, 2008
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Senior Brittany Daly and junior Megan Flanagan were named the Mountain West Conference women's swimmer and diver of the week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. This marks the second time this season, and in program history, that the Aztecs have swept the weekly awards, as sophomores Jessica Morrill and Caitlin Atkinson accomplished the feat earlier this year (Jan. 9). It is the first MWC weekly honors for both Daly and Flanagan. Daly and Flanagan led San Diego State to a 156-136 victory over the University of San Diego in the Aztecs' final home meet of the season on Saturday, Feb. 2. With the win, SDSU finished the dual meet season at 8-4 (.667), marking the Aztecs' best winning percentage since the 2001-02 squad went 10-3 (.769). Daly, a Bay Shore, N.Y., native turned in two individual wins in her last dual meet of her career. She swam a season-best 10:39.83 to claim the 1,000 freestyle before capturing the 500 free crown with a personal and team season-best time of 5:09.75. Flanagan, meanwhile, opened the diving competition with a career-best 300.83 on the 3-meter board, crushing the previous school record of 265.50 set by Atkinson last year. With her top score, Flanagan secured a spot in the NCAA Zone E Diving Regionals in March. The Oakdale, Minn., native went on to record the fourth-highest score in SDSU history with a season-best 263.40 in the 1-meter event. San Diego State will return to the pool Feb. 27-Mar. 1 at the Mountain West Conference championships in Oklahoma City, Okla. Atkinson, Flanagan and Kristen Maurer will also compete in the NCAA regionals at the same site from Mar. 13-15.
