MPSF Championships: (1) UCLA 8, (5) Hawai'i 6

SAN DIEGO - Down by three goals early in the first half, top-seeded UCLA came back to defeat No. 5 seed Hawai'i, 8-6, in the first semifinal match of the MPSF Championships. The Bruins remained perfect with a 29-0 record, while the Rainbow Wahine fall to 20-9 on the season.

UH held the three-time defending national champions scoreless through the first 14 minutes of action, taking an early 3-0 lead. UCLA was not fazed, however, as it scored three times at the end of the first half to even the game at three.

The Bruins took their first lead of the day on a Courtney Mathewson goal at the 2:50 mark in the third quarter. The two teams went back and forth for the remainder of the period, but UCLA came out with a slim 6-5 advantage heading into the final stanza. UCLA then scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to secure a spot in the finals at 4:10 p.m. (PDT) on Sunday, April 27. The Bruins will take on the winner of the USC/Stanford match.

Courtney Mathewson led UCLA with a game-high four goals, while Brittany Fullen notched eight saves. Kelly Mason and Angela Turnbull each scored a pair of goals and Serena Bredin had six stops in between the posts to pace the Rainbow Wahine.
