Complete Scholar Athlete Honoree List in PDF Format
March 19, 2008 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (March 19, 2008) - A total of 137 student-athletes at Southeast Missouri State University were honored as Southeast Scholar Athletes during a Wednesday luncheon at the University Center. The Southeast Scholar Athletes have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The 137 honored represent 48% of the total student-athletes at Southeast including 71% of the female student-athletes. The group includes a record 20 athletes with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. The student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPA's include Andrew Wiese, baseball; Molly Davis, volleyball; Sandra Blake, Lauren Dinan, Maureen Grimaldi, Jacqueline Heath, Kelley Krengiel, Erica Moore and Christina Sundgren, gymnastics; Rachel Blunt, women's basketball; Whitney Dupuis, softball; Brandi Gervais, Cara Harbsteet, Lauren McNamara and Amy Warren, women's cross country and track; and Courtney Alexander, Kristi Frick, Amber Garner, Vanessa Hart and Ellen Rehfus, soccer. Also named Southeast Scholar Athletes were 14 cheerleaders, 11 Sundancers and 13 student trainers. The honorees represented 56% of the cheerleaders, 73% of the Sundancers and 81% of the student trainers. The gymnastics team was lauded for earning the title of Academic National Champions, according to the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women. With a team GPA of 3.741, Southeast ended a six-year run of first-place finishes by Southern Utah. The luncheon also recognized student-athletes who had been honored by the Ohio Valley Conference for the 2006-2007 school year. Student-athletes at Southeast claimed 24 Ohio Valley Conference Medals of Honor for the 2006-2007 school year. The Medal of Honor is given annually to the student-athlete who achieves the highest grade point average in a Conference-sponsored sport. Southeast athletes earning Medals of Honor included Josh Parham, Scott Powers and Andrew Wiese, baseball; Rachel Blunt, women's basketball; Matt Boyack, football; Courtney Alexander and Amber Garner, soccer; Lindsay Woodworth and Megan McDonald, softball; Kim Anderson, tennis; Molly Davis, volleyball and Heather West, women's track and field. Dustin Davis, Mark McNamara, Brittni Peck, Sarah Verelst, Amy Warren and Lindsay Zeiler won Medals of Honor in both cross country and track and field. All of the athletes had a 4.0 grade point average for the 2006-2007 school year. In other academic awards, the Southeast men's cross country team received an OVC Team Academic Achievement Award presented by Aeropostale. The award is presented annually in each Conference sponsored sport to the member institution team with the greatest percentage of its student-athletes named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll. The Redhawks men's cross country team had eight athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll including Dustin Davis, Brad DeMattei, Brandon Karcher, Lucas Luckett, Kevin McNab, Mark McNamara, Paul Stemmerman and Danny Stults. They were also honored for men's track and field. They lead a school record group of 107 Southeast student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. To be listed on the Honor Roll, recipients must have achieved at least a 3.25 grade point average and have been eligible and on the team throughout the competitive season in their chosen NCAA-sponsored sport or sports. |
