Redhawks Track and Field Host Broadway Prescription Invitational

Feb. 19, 2008

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State track and field teams will host the Broadway Prescription Invitational on Friday night at the Student Recreation Center. The event will be the last regular season indoor meet before the Ohio Valley Conference Championships.

Teams competing with the host Redhawks will be Austin Peay (women), Murray State (women), Bethel College, Lipscomb University and University of Memphis.

The field events will feature several talented athletes. Senior John Berry will be one out of the many prominent faces to look for. Berry is an NCAA provisional qualifier in the long jump and has won four individual titles. He will be looking to gain his fifth win.

Sophomore Brandon Colbert will lead the men's shot and weight competitions. He is currently ranked first in the OVC in the shot put and weight throw. Teammates Andy Glass and Josh Uchtman will join Colbert in the shot put. They hold the 2-3 spots on the OVC best list respectively.

The Redhawks women will be challenged with national talent in the shot put competition. The University of Memphis has a number of All-Americans including Susan King and Sivan Aballi. Murray State will also bring several members from their team who hold top marks in the OVC.

Due to the size of the recreational center track, only certain running events will contest. There will be short sprints and a few distance races.

Several track athletes are coming off of a three week stint of heavy competition and will not take part in the meet. Of those athletes, Miles Smith and the men's 4x400-meter relay will sit out and train throughout the week in preparation for conference.

Field events will begin at 5:30 p.m, followed by running events scheduled for 8 p.m.
