Miles Smith Garners OVC Honors

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Ohio Valley Conference has honored Miles Smith as Male Track Athlete of the Week for his performances at the Iowa State Cyclone Classic last weekend.

Smith, a native from St. Louis, Mo., automatically qualified for the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships with a time of 46.13, which is the top time in the nation for the 400-meter and a career best. He also anchored the 4x400-meter relay with a best time of 3:09.68 and is currently 10th in the nation.

Smith won the honor last week after winning the 400-meter in a time of 46.61 and anchoring the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:10.99.

Smith will not compete at the Broadway Prescription Invitational on Friday night, but will be back in action on February 29-March 1 at the OVC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Nashville, Tenn.
