Southeast Track and Field Travels to Tennessee

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Six track and field athletes will travel to Knoxville to compete at the Sea Ray Relays, while the remainder of the team will travel to Nashville to compete at the Boston-Moon Classic.

The Sea Ray Relays, hosted by the University of Tennessee, has always been a showcase of talent and this year will not be any different. There will be a number of notable athletes in attendance as they prepare for the 2008 Olympic Trails and Olympic Games.

Southeast enters the relays with five athletes qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional, which will be held on May 30-31, in Fayetteville, Ark. The group includes Miles Smith (St. Louis, Mo.) in the 400-meters, John Berry (St. Louis, Mo.) in the long jump, Lindsay Hearne (Freeburg, Ill.) and Samantha Espiricueta (Belton, Mo.) in the javelin and Ben Stricklin (Sikeston, Mo.) in the javelin. Brandon Karcher will join his fellow teammates and make his first appearance in the 10,000-meter runner.

Competition will take place on Friday and resume on Saturday.

The complete track and field team will take part in the Boston-Moon Track Classic on Saturday, hosted by Tennessee State University.
