By Tyler Koonce, Assistant Men's Basketball Contact

ATLANTA, Ga. - Southeast Missouri State assistant men's basketball coach, Rodney Hamilton, was honored Wednesday at his alma mater as the 2008 Georgia State University Legend. GSU Director of Athletics Mary McElroy presented him with a Colonial Athletic Association Legend basketball at halftime of the Panthers' game against Drexel at the Georgia State Sports Arena.

Hamilton, in his first season as an assistant for the Redhawks, is the Panthers' all-time leader in scoring, assists and steals. He was a two-time All-Atlantic Sun Conference selection, earning first team and ASC All-Tournament honors in 1998. He was named second team All-ASC in 1997 and garnered Academic All-ASC both years. Hamilton is the only player in school history to start more than 100 games and was the first GSU player to have his jersey number retired.

Over his standout career, he scored 1,515 points, dished out 535 assists and grabbed 212 steals, all GSU records. He is also the most accurate free throw shooter in school history at 83.8 percent.

After graduating from GSU in 1998, Hamilton played professionally for three seasons in Sweden, Switzerland and Hungary before beginning his coaching career.

Every year, the GSU and the CAA honor a former men's basketball standout as a Legend.
