Jaycen Herring Tabbed OVC Newcomer of the Week

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - Southeast Missouri State junior Jaycen Herring (Memphis, Tenn./Palm Beach CC) was named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week Monday. In two home contests last week against Austin Peay and Tennessee-Martin, Herring averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, three assists and two steals per game.

Against league-leading Austin Peay on Tuesday, Herring registered his first career double-double, leading the Redhawks with career highs of 29 points and 12 rebounds in a thrilling 121-116 triple overtime victory. He shot 3-5 from three-point range and 8-12 from the free throw line against the Governors. During Saturday's match up versus Tennessee-Martin, he scored 12 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out four assists, blocked three shots and made three steals.

For the season, Herring leads Southeast in scoring at 13.6 points per game. He averages 3.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists and one steal per outing. In OVC play, he averages 15 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
