Redhawks Head Out of Conference for ESPN Bracketbuster Game

BASKETBALL GAME INFORMATION Saturday, February 23, 3:00 p.m. (CST) Southeast Missouri at Eastern Michigan Convocation Center, Ypsilanti, Michigan THE TEAMS: Southeast Missouri is 12-16 overall and 7-11 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Redhawks, who have lost 11 of their last 12 games, ended a six-game losing streak with a 121-116 triple overtime win over league leading Austin Peay on Jan. 29, but have lost five straight since. Eastern Michigan has won three of its last five games to stand 10-15 overall and 6-7 in the Mid American Conference. EKU is 7-4 at the Convocation Center. THE COACHES: Scott Edgar is 23-36 in his second season as head coach at Southeast after previous head coaching stints at Murray State and Duquesne. His collegiate record is 131-131 in his ninth year as a head coach. Charles Ramsey is 30-55 in his third season as Eastern Michigan head coach. THE SERIES: First meeting. **REDHAWKS NOTES** ESPNU BRACKETBUSTER: Southeast will play at Eastern Michigan in an ESPNU BracketBuster game on Saturday, Feb. 23. The tipoff at the Convocation Center on the Eastern Michigan campus will be 3 p.m. (CST). Southeast is 2-2 in the BracketBuster series. The Redhawks have lost the BracketBuster game each of the last two years, but has won the rematch the following season. Southeast losses on BracketBuster Saturday include at California-Riverside and at home vs. Louisiana Tech. The Redhawks beat both teams the following year. SCORING MILESTONES: During the Eastern Kentucky game, two Redhawks reached scoring milestones. Sophomore Rod Pearson scored his 500th point at Southeast and now has 538 points for his two-year career. Senior Mike Rembert scored his 400th point as a Redhawk and now had 433 points for his two years at Southeast. Including his two years at Bradley, Rembert has 561 points. Sophomore Marcus Rhodes is closing in on 400 points. He has 399 points. HERRING SUFFERS FINGER INJURY: Junior college transfer Jaycen Herring suffered a finger injury on his left hand during practicelast week. He played just 12-minutes on Thursday vs. Eastern Illinois but played 36-minutes on Saturday at UT Martin. Herring is shooting .504 from the field, .404 from three and .761 from the line. The 6-5 transfer from Palm Beach CC who played his freshman season at Tennessee-Chattanooga, Herring has scored in double figures in 20 of 26 games played, and averages 13.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. REMBERT HITS THE BOARDS: Rembert had a career high 19 rebounds in the overtime loss at Eastern Kentucky. His previous career high was 12 against Eastern Illinois last season. TV HOT, HOT, HOT: Junior guard Kenard Moore was 11-16 (.688) from three in the two nationally televised games. Overall, he averages 9.7 points per game while shooting .387 from three and .846 from the line. He was 7-10 from three and 5-6 from the line while scoring a career high 28 points against Austin Peay. HARRIS SHINES: Junior Hank Harris had a career high 12 points in the Austin Peay game. He was 2-3 from the field, 2-2 from three and 6-6 from the line. Harris had nine points in the third overtime. DEPTH IS A KEY: Depth has played a key role for the Redhawks this season. In a stat researched by Chris Forman of the United States Naval Academy, Southeast is one of seven teams in NCAA Division I to have 10 or more players score in double figures this season. Wofford and Southeast have 11 players while Navy, Duquesne, Creighton, Belmont and Lipscomb have 10. The Redhawks who have scored in double figures this season and their game highs include Brandon Foust (25), Will Bogan (23), Rod Pearson (22), Jaycen Herring (29), Jimmy Drew (19), Kenard Moore (28), Calvin Williams (16), Marcus Rhodes (15), David Johnson (12), Mike Rembert (17) and Hank Harris (12). PEARSON CONSISTENT: Sophomore Rod Pearson has started 25 of 28 games this season. He is second on the team in scoring with 297 points and leads in assists with 73. Pearson averages 10.6 points and 2.6 assists. OVC HONORS: Senior Brandon Foust was selected as a co-winner of the OVC Player of the Week honors on Jan. 7 after averaging a double-double in win wins over Eastern Kentucky and Eastern Illinois. He averaged 16.5 points and 11 rebounds per contest and also added 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Calvin Williams, a transfer from Colorado, was named the OVC Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season after averaging a double-double in two opening OVC wins. Williams averaged 15.5 points and 11 rebounds per game in the wins over Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech. Jaycen Herring was named the OVC Newcomer of the Week on Feb. 4. He averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, three assists and two steals in the Austin Peay and UT Martin games. IMPRESSIVE START BY BOGAN: True freshman Will Bogan, 6-10, 300, is off to an impressive start with the Redhawks. He had 23 points at Illinois State. Bogan had the game winning tip in with 1.9-seconds remaining in the win at Jacksonville State. He had 17 points against league leading Austin Peay and 18 points against Tennessee-Martin. He is shooting .588 from the field in OVC games and is 1-1 from three. After 25 games played, Bogan averages 6.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. REMBERT ROUNDS INTO FORM: Senior post player Michael Rembert is recovering from two off season knee surgeries, is finally healthy and more productive. Rembert, who has started 18 of the last 20 games, is averaging 6.5 points and 4.3 rebound per game. He had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds at Murray State. FOUST OUT FOR SEASON: Senior forward Brandon Foust, 6-6, has been lost for the remainder of the season with a knee injury suffered in the Jan. 12 game at Austin Peay. Foust, a preseason all-Ohio Valley Conference choice, injured his knee when landing from a dunk shot with 11:57 remaining in the game. He had surgery on his injured knee on Fri., Feb. 8. For the season, Foust averaged 11.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He shot .481 from the field, 370 from three and .780 from the free throw line. For his career at Southeast, Foust played in 49 games and averaged 11.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. TWO EARLY SIGNEES: The Redhawks signed two players to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period. Martino Brock, 6-5 guard from Nashville Christian Academy, and Mark Caviness, 6-5 swing player from Indian River Community College in Ft. Pierce, Fla. Brock is averaging 22 points and 7 rebounds per game this season. Caviness is averaging 16 points and seven rebounds per game. AT THE SHOW ME CENTER: Southeast has a record of 212-94 (.697) at the Show Me Center since the facility opened in 1987. The Redhawks are 7-4 at the Show Me Center this season while leading the OVC in home attendance with 3,488 per game. SID STREAK: Southeast SID Ron Hines has worked 817 consecutive basketball games. He has not missed a game since 1980. REDHAWKS HAVE ST. LOUIS RADIO STATION: The Southeast Basketball Network includes Team 1380 Radio in St. Louis. The network operated by Mississippi River Radio, will be anchored by 100,000 watt K-103 FM in Cape Girardeau. Other network stations include KSIM, Sikeston;, KWOC, Poplar Bluff and KMAL, Malden. Erik Sean is the play-by-play voice of Redhawks basketball with Todd Bonacki adding commentary at home games and Ron Hines adding color during the road games. REDHAWKS BASKETBALL WITH Scott Edgar: Edgar will have a weekly television show on WQWQ-TV, the Heartland's CW. The show will be seen at 11 p.m. each Monday night beginning on Nov. 26 and will be hosted by Heartland Sports Director Todd Richards. The show will also be shown on Charter Cable, Channel 11 at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The show will also air on The Storm Team 24-hour Weather Channel at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. EDGAR ON RADIO: The Scott Edgar Radio Show will be heard every Tuesday, 6 p.m., on ESPN 1220 Radio. The hour long show that will include call ins, will be hosted by Erik Sean. LIVE VIDEO STREAMING: Southeast fans can watch Redhawks OVC basketball games on the internet through the Ohio Valley Conference's premium we site, OVCSports.TV.
