Redhawks Place Three on Preseason all-OVC Football Team

July 22, 2008

Nashville, Tenn. - Southeast Missouri State has placed three players on the preseason all-OVC football team. Junior punter Doug Spada, junior linebacker Jared Goodson and senior running back Timmy Holloman were all voted to the team by the league coaches and sports information directors.

Spada, an honorable mention All-America pick by The Sports Network last season, was a first team all-OVC selection after averaging 42.5 yards per punt. Goodson was fourth in OVC tackles with 98 last season while Holloman had 655 yards rushing and six touchdowns in just five games played last season.

"All three are very deserving," said Southeast coach Tony Samuel. "Because of a preseason injury to our palce kicker, Spada had to handle all punting and kicking last season and he did a great job. Goodson is a great athlete with a nose for the football while Holloman is a tremendous back who can break big plays."

Holloman will not be eligible for play until the sixth game of the 2008 season, but will miss only one OVC game.

The Redhawks, who were 1-6 in OVC play last season, were picked to finish ninth in this year's preseason poll. Jacksonville State was picked to win the league with Eastern Kentucky second, Eastern Illinois third, Tennessee State fourth, UT Martin fifth, Tennessee Tech sixth, Austin Peay seventh, Murray State eighth and the Redhawks ninth.
