Angela Lewis heads into her second season as an assistant coach for Southeast women's basketball. "I'm very ecstatic to have Angie joining our coaching staff. I had the privilege of coaching her during her freshman year at Saint Louis, where she became an outstanding player, student and ambassador to the university," Coach Ishee said. "I think that she will make an immediate impact for our student-athletes based on her collegiate and professional playing experience along with her outstanding leadership in the classroom. I'm also looking to her in being an immediate recruiter and I could not be happier with her joining the Redhawks." Lewis was a four-year letterwinner at Saint Louis University under former Southeast player and assistant coach Jill Pizotti, where she was named the school's Female Athlete of the Year in 2004 and twice captured Third Team All-Conference USA accolades. She ranks sixth in school history in points (1,300) and rebounds (659) . Lewis earned the Robin Roberts/WBCA Broadcasting Scholarship which is presented annually to a senior female collegiate basketball player who intends to pursue graduate work and a career in sports communication. In addition Lewis participated in the WBCA's (Nike) So You Want to Be A Coach program which includes workshops that provide an educational and professional foundation for minority female basketball players entering the coaching profession. After completing her collegiate career at Saint Louis, Lewis played for TV Bensburg of the Women's Bundesliga League in Bensburg, Germany during the 2004-05 season. "This is an amazing opportunity for me to be part of a good basketball program like Southeast. Coach Ishee is very knowledgeable of the game and I'm very humbled that he called me to be a part of his coaching staff," Lewis said. "I'm looking forward to helping these ladies continue their success that they have achieved in past years." Lewis came to Cape Girardeau after serving as an assistant coach at Division III Webster University in her hometown of St. Louis, MO. Before Webster, Lewis served as an assistant coach at Metro High School in St. Louis in 2005-06 where the team won the Class 2A state title. Lewis earned a bachelor's degree in Communication in 2004 from Saint Louis University and later returned to earn a master's degree in Communications in December 2006. |
