Rachel Blunt Captures Academic All-District Honors

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State women's basketball player Rachel Blunt (Dexter, Mo./Dexter) was recently named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team for District 7. The teams were voted on by members of CoSIDA. She is the first Academic All-District honoree under current head coach John Ishee. Blunt, a 6-0 junior forward, has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average over her first two-plus years at Southeast while majoring in sport management. She is currently averaging 7.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game this season in addition to shooting 81 percent from the free throw line. Blunt has produced seven double-digit scoring games on the year, including a season-best 17 points against Tennessee Tech on Dec. 8. Blunt earned the Ohio Valley Conference's Medal of Honor for having the highest GPA among women's basketball players in the conference during the 2006-07 season. She also claimed the honor for the 2005-06 campaign as well to go along with a pair of Southeast Scholar-Athlete and OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades. The first team selection automatically qualifies Blunt for CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors which will be announced on Feb. 26. |
