Southeast Gymnast Sandra Blake Earns MIC Gymnast Of The Week Award

Worthington, Gymnastics Contact CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast junior Sandra Blake (Tri-Cities, Wash./Mid Columbia) was named the Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) Gymnast of the Week for her performance last week in a dual meet against conference foe Illinois State. It is the first award for Blake and the Redhawks this season and marks the fourth time she has won the award in her three year career. Blake led the Redhawks (2-0, 1-0 MIC) last Friday as they handed the Illinois State Redbirds (2-1, 0-1 MIC) their first loss of the season. She won her first individual titles of the season as she scored season-highs on the floor (9.800) and the all-around (38.950). Blake tallied a 9.700 on the vault and finished the bars with a 9.675. On beam, she finished with a season-high 9.775 that landed her in a two-way tie for second place in the meet. The gymnastics team will be back in action this Saturday afternoon as they host the University of Iowa. The game will begin at 2:00 p.m. in Houck Field House. Special promotions for the day will be the annual "Girl Power" event and Alumni Night. |
