Sandra Blake Earns MIC Gymnast of the Week Honors

March 5, 2008

By Matthew C. Worthington, Gymnastics Contact

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri University junior Sandra Blake (Tri-Cities, Wash./Mid Columbia Gymnastics) earned the Midwest Independent Conference of the Week award this week, totaling the sixth win of her career.

Blake had a phenomenal week leading the Redhawks through three games while on the road for seven days. Against Southern Utah, Blake was the top scoring Redhawk on every event and walked away with outright individual titles on vault, floor and the all-around. For the week, she finished with six first place finishes capturing the all-around title twice. The performances from Blake this week have pushed her to 1st in the MIC on floor and all-around and No.33 in the nation on the all-around.

This award marks the third of the season for Blake after winning back-to-back titles earlier this season.

The Redhawks will be in action this Saturday in Chicago, Ill. as they face off against the University of Illinois-Chicago. The team will then return to Houck Field House to host Texas Woman's University on Thursday, March 20 for their last regular season meet.
