Redhawks Come up Short to Golden Eagles
April 5, 2008 By Brett Maikowski, Tennis Contact CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast lost its second match of the weekend against Tennessee Tech today at the Redhawks Tennis Complex, 5-2. The Redhawks were able to win a few individual matches, but it was not enough to overcome the Golden Eagles. In doubles, Bryce and Drew Kristal started out the day strong by capturing an 8-2 win over Kay Ngiam and Diana Woodcock in No. 1 action. The other doubles teams weren't able to start off as strong though, as Julia Masotti and Alyce Kelly fell to Mireia Cano and Katie Barnhill in No. 2 doubles, 4-6. Finishing up in the No. 3 spot, Elise Nattier and Taylor Orahood lost to Kelly Holtzhausen and Evgenia Yartseva, 3-6. In singles, Bryce Kristal once again started out with a win by taking the match in three sets against Holtzhausen, 6-4, 5-7, 10-1. Nattier also earned a point for the Redhawks in No. 4 competition by taking down Barnhill, 6-4, 6-3. Masotti had trouble coming up with the win in No. 2 play after falling to Cano by identical scores of 1-6. In No. 3 singles, D. Kristal battled to three sets before she finally went down 6-2, 1-6, 3-6 to Woodcock. Kelly was defeated by Ngiam in No. 5 action, 2-6, 1-6 and Orahood lost to Yartseva by matching scores of 0-6 in the No. 6 slot. Southeast (5-10, 2-5 OVC) will finish up its third and final match of the weekend tomorrow at 1 p.m. against Samford (12-5, 4-0 OVC) at the Redhawks Tennis Complex. |
