Rome, Ga. - The Shorter College men's basketball team won their second game in a row in Thursday evening by beating the Brewton-Parker Barons, 57-50, at Shorter's Winthrop-King Centre. In a close first half, Shorter (14-5, 6-3) was a perfect 6-for-6 on free throws to lead 25-24 going into the second. An astounding 16 free throw shots for the Hawks allowed them to extend their lead in the second to pull out the win. "It was a closer first half than we wanted, but it was nice to pull out a little in the second," said head coach Chad Warner. "We have a lot to work on for Faulkner next week, and I'm excited about what we can do." Shorter had eight steals in the game against Brewton-Parker's (4-14, 0-7) three. Tomas Pranciliauskas was the leading scorer for the Hawks with 16 points and was followed by A.J. Martin's 12. Both Martin and Fred Christopher led the team in rebounds with six apiece. For Brewton-Parker, Jurbien Byrd led the way with 16 points. Shorter continues play at home on Thursday against Faulkner at 8 p.m. |
