Rome, Ga. - The Mid-South Conference has announced that Shorter College football player Ryan Gloer has been recognized as an honorable mention Champions of Character recipient. Each year, members of the Mid-South Conference nominate one player from every team that they feel exemplify the spirit of the NAIA Champions of Character program. Gloer was this year's nominee for the Hawks. The NAIA and the Mid-South Conference approach sport as an opportunity to teach beyond the fundamentals through the philosophy of Champions of Character. By applying the five core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship the Mid-South Conference has the ability to maximize talent to the benefit of each individual and build competitive teams. "Ryan is the kind of young man you want in your program," said head football coach Phil Jones. "He not only excels on the football field, but is a strong Christian example for others on the team and his ethics and effort are unmatched." Gloer, a 6'0" junior linebacker from Starr's Mill High School, led the Hawks in assisted tackles this season with 42, and tacked on 24 more unassisted tackles. He started for the Hawks his third straight year since joining the team in their inaugural season. The Shorter College Hawks start their fourth season on Thurs., Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. as they take on the NCCA Div. I Western Carolina Catamounts in Cullowhee, N.C. |
