Lady Hawks take needed conference win over Emmanuel, 71-66

Rome, Ga. - The Shorter College Lady Hawks took a needed conference victory over Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon, 71-66, to take a solid third place in the Southern States Athletic Conference.

In the first half against Emmanuel, the Lady Hawks shot 36% from beyond the arc and Whitney Evans scored eight points to give Shorter a 35-28 halftime lead.

Shorter (18-7, 11-4) jumped out to a bigger lead in the second half, going up 59-48 with a little under five minutes left in the game. Emmanuel (18-7, 11-6) narrowed the lead to four at the two-minute mark, but a combined six points from Nicole Frechette and Tamara Weatherby under the one minute mark gave Shorter the win, 71-66. S

The Lady Hawks combined to shoot 57% in the second half and were 18-for-26 on free throws.

Weatherby finished the game with 19 points for Shorter and was followed by Katarina Martinovic with 17. Megan Queen led the Lady Hawks in rebounds with nine.

Carrie Maan led Emmanuel with 14 points.
