Orange Beach, Ala. - Competing in the Gulf Shores Invitational, the Lady Hawks softball team reeled off five straight wins to advance to the championship round of the double-elimination event. Shorter (21-4), which has now won 12 of its past 13 games, opened the day with a 5-0 win over Columbia, followed by a 5-1 victory over Thomas College, and a 4-2 win against Houston-Victoria. Becca Thomas threw a five-hit shutout in the opener, and was supported by Kerri Hammond, who went 2-for-3 with four RBIs. In the second game, Libby Munson went the distance for the win, finishing with seven strikeouts. She also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Sanders added a solo homer. In the final game of the night, Lindsey McDaniel's two-run homer erased Shorter's 2-0 deficit in the fourth, and Jessica Sanders put the Lady Hawks on top with a RBI double. Shorter continues play in the double-elimination tourney today. |
