Softball is now on a five-game win streak

April 9, 2008

Waleska, Ga. - The No. 17-ranked Shorter softball team picked up a pair of Southern States Athletic Conference road wins when the Lady Hawks claimed 9-0 and 7-3 decisions over host Reinhardt. The Lady Hawks have now won nine of their last ten games.

In the opener, while pitcher Becca Thomas tossed a one-hitter, Shorter found the power via a pair of three-run homers from Kerry Hammond and Lakyn Newton.

Hammond ended the game going 3-for-3, Newton had two hits, Libby Munson had two hits and a pair of RBI, and Kali Newton and Jessica Sanders had two hits each.

In the second game, the Lady Hawks got eight hits from eight different batters to back up Munson on the mound.

Lindsey McDaniel had the big blow for the Lady Hawks with a two-run double in the fifth inning that highlighted a five-run rally.

Rockmart grad Liz Clark also drove in a pair of runs, Monica West had an RBI and Newton scored two runs.

Shorter (33-9, 13-5) will be busy this weekend with a pair of SSAC home doubleheaders at Alto Park, facing Southern Wesleyan on Friday starting at 4 p.m. and Breneau on Saturday at 1 p.m.
