Rome, Ga. - On Wednesday afternoon, the Shorter College Lady Hawks softball team continued on their win streak, by taking their 12th and 13th straight win over the visiting Emmnauel Lady Lions, winning the first game 9-0 and the second game 12-0. Both games were shortened to five innings because of the run rule. Shorter continued to use a simple winning formula -- a 1-2 pitching punch from Becca Thomas and Libby Munson, and a well-balanced offensive attack. In the opener, Thomas delivered another gem on the mound, pitching a perfect game into the fourth inning and ended her outing giving up just two hits and not allowing a single walk. Jessica Sanders and Kerry Hammond headed up the fireworks at the plate, Sanders going 2-for-2 with a 2-run homer in the first inning and Hammond connecting for a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs. Munson added two hits and an RBI, Kali Milford had two hits, and Lakyn Newton and Thomas each driving in a run. In the second game, Munson took the mound and tossed a one-hitter while striking out six batters, then helped herself out going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Hammond continued her power surge hitting a two-run homer, Liz Clark had a solo home run and drove in two runs, Jessica Sanders had two hits and a pair of RBI, and Milford and Lindsey McDaniel both drove home a run. Shorter will take a 21-5 conference record (41-9) into Saturday's twinbill against No. 19 Faulkner (28-17), which has a 17-3 SSAC mark with doubleheaders against Reinhardt (Friday), Emmanuel (Sunday) and Brenau (next Tuesday) still to play. |
