Women's tennis take first victory over conference-foe Columbia

Columbia, S.C. - The Shorter women's tennis team bounced back from a season-opening loss at Emory with a conference win Saturday at Columbia in South Carolina.

The No. 14-ranked Lady Hawks won 8-1 over the Lady Koalas in the Southern States Athletic Conference match as Shorter swept the doubles competition.

The teams of Danielle Monteith and Angelica Bardarinko and Kristy Walker and Caroline Roberts won their contests 8-2 while Giuliana Luconi and Carolina Brigneti won 8-3.

In singles competition, Robert won her No. 2 match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, Luconi won 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 4 slot and Walker completed her No. 6 match with a 7-5 set after winning the first 6-1.

Monteith took her No. 3 match 6-4, 6-1 and Brigneti won 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 5 slot. No. 1 singles Bardarinko fell in three sets, 4-6, 7-6, 6-1.
