12 Run Eighth Powers Stags Past Saints

April 13, 2008

Final Stats

Fairfield sent 17 batters to the plate and scored 12 times in the top of the eighth inning, turning a 10-6 deficit into a runaway rain-delayed win at Siena Field Sunday afternoon. The Stags claim the weekend series 2-1 with the come-from-behind win.

Leadoff man Abbie Desimone finished 6-for-7 with three runs scored and three RBI for Fairfield. The Stags first five batters accounted for 15 of the team's 18 hits. Matt Tiagwad was 3-for-7 with three RBI and three runs scored and Peter Allen finished 2-for-4 with four runs and two RBI.

Juan Amador's grand slam staked the Saints to a 4-1 lead after two innings of play. It was the first home run of the freshman's career. Fairfield scored twice in the third and once in the fourth to pull within 5-4, put the Saints erupted for four more runs in their fourth at bat.

Rick Seltzer's two-run home run to centerfield sparked the rally.

Jason DeFilippo hit safely in his first three at bats, joining teammate Jacob Willis (3-for-4, two runs) with a three hit game. Freshman Don DiPetta finished off a nice week at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort.

Siena used six different pitchers, all of which struggled.

The Stags had eight hits in the 12-run eighth against three different Siena pitchers. Mike Weiner and Desimone each drove home two runs with bases loaded singles.

Siena drops to 5-7 in the MAAC with the loss and 9-22 on the season. Fairfield improved to 10-20 and 8-4 in the league. The game was delayed an hour and a half due to rain.

The Saints return to action Tuesday against Binghamton here in Loudonville.
