Saints Rebound, Rout Wagner for First MAAC Win

April 5, 2008

Final Stats

Loudonville, N.Y. - Eight separate Saints recorded a goal led by Ryan Duggan's hat trick as the Siena men's lacrosse team picked up their first conference win of the season in routing Wagner 10-1 this afternoon in Staten Island, N.Y. Three Siena goalies combined to allow a season-low one goal, falling just 18 seconds shy of recording a rare shutout.

The Saints (7-4, 1-2) wasted no time whatsoever in receiving four goals from four separate goal scorers to build a commanding 4-0 lead after the first period. Siena extended their lead to as much as 7-0 at intermission in what turned out to be a lopsided affair. The Saints out-shot the Seahawks 22-8 in the opening stanza.

Wagner's (0-9, 0-3) Brian Poissant scored a man-up goal with just 18 seconds remaining in the contest to avoid the shutout. Nonetheless, the one goal allowed was the fewest by a Siena team this decade.

The Saints were strong on the defensive end throughout, thanks in part to the efforts of goalies Brent Herbst, Bill Kelly and Tom Morr who combined to post 10 saves. The Green and Gold were also equally solid on man-down situations, killing seven of Wagner's eight opportunities.

Face-off specialist Scott Montgomery had another dominant game in the face-off X, winning seven of ten draws, while also scooping a game-high seven groundballs.

Other Siena goal scorers included Tim Rau, Bryan Hale, Shaun Dunn, Jake Kalata, Brendan Murphy, Kevin Kitt and James Reichert. Kitt and Reichert's goals marked the first of their careers.

Siena returns home for their next conference clash Saturday against VMI. Face-off is slated for 1 p.m. from Siena Turf Field.
