Duggan, Herbst Nab MAAC Men's Lacrosse Weekly Accolades

March 25, 2008

Loudonville, N.Y. - Siena men's lacrosse sophomore standouts Ryan Duggan and Brent Herbst were each honored by the conference this afternoon with their weekly awards following a pair of wins over then #17 Loyola and Hartford. Duggan was tabbed MAAC Player of the Week, while Herbst secured Defensive Player of the Week honors for the third time in five weeks of voting this season.

Duggan was the offensive difference maker in the Saints 5-4 upset victory over #17 Loyola on Tuesday in Baltimore, Md. The East Setauket, N.Y. native was involved in four of the five Siena goals, recording a hat trick while also adding an assist. It was Duggan's goal earlier in the third period that proved to be the game-winner in arguably the biggest win in program history.

In Saturday's 10-4 victory over Hartford, Duggan picked up right where he left off, adding a goal and two assists. For the week, he scored four goals and added three assists for seven total points and currently ranks T-3rd in the MAAC in goals scored this season (11), T-3rd in assists (10) and T-2nd in points (21).

Herbst meanwhile had another outstanding week, surrendering just eight goals over two games in the pair of victories. The reigning MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year had perhaps the finest performance of his career against the Greyhounds, notching a season-high 16 saves while posting an amazing save percentage of 80%.

In the victory over the Hawks, the Plainview, N.Y. native added seven stops while again only allowing four goals. For the week, Herbst posted 23 saves while amassing a save percentage of 74.2%. Herbst currently leads the league in goals against average (6.22) and save percentage (61.8%).
