Women's Lacrosse Stumbles in Season Opener, 16-8

Feb. 23, 2008

Box Score

Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena women's lacrosse team dropped their season opener to reigning Division II National Champion C.W. Post this afternoon 16-8 at Siena Turf Field. The Pioneers (1-0) scored five goals late in the second half after the Saints (0-1) had pulled to within three with 15 minutes to go. Junior midfielder Lindsey Rosecrans and sophomore attack Catherine Quinlan each recorded three goals apiece to lead the Saints' offensive attack.

Both teams wasted no time scoring quickly as the teams combined for seven goals in the first 12:15. After C.W. Post had taken a commanding early 4-1 lead just eight minutes in, the feisty Saints stormed back on goals by senior quad-captain Lynn Harkins and Quinlan to pull within 4-3 at the 17:45 mark. The Pioneers would take a 6-4 lead entering intermission.

In the second half, the Saints against chipped away at the Pioneers lead and closed the gap to 7-6 on Rosecrans' second goal in a span of 33 seconds with 25:09 remaining.

C.W. Post answered back by scoring the next four goals, but Siena continued to be resilient as they cut the deficit to 11-8 with 15:25 remaining on an Erin Montgomery score.

The Saints would get no closer as the Pioneers scored five unanswered goals from there on out to double up the Green and Gold 16-8.

Both teams fired 28 shots apiece, while the Saints held a 26-21 advantage in ground balls. C.W. Post was led by strong performances from Katie Hogan (five goals, six total points), Brianne Jackolski (three goals, four total points) and Jenna Miller (two goals, five total points).

The Green and Gold will return to action on Tuesday when they host Vermont at Siena Turf Field. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
