Karbowski Releases 2008 Women's Soccer Schedule
April 17, 2008
Loudonville, N.Y. - Siena women's soccer coach Steve Karbowski released his squad's 2008 schedule earlier this afternoon. Highlighted in the nineteen game schedule are nine home dates and an annual appearance in the highly anticipated Governors Cup. For the first time in program history, the Saints will also host the 2008 MAAC Women's Soccer Tournament. "Between a competitive non-conference schedule, the most competitive MAAC play and hosting the tournament there is a lot of anticipation and excitement surrounding the fall 2008 season," remarked Karbowski. The Saints open the season with a trio of home games in a five day span beginning on Sept. 5 against Rhode Island. Siena will play six home non-conference games in total this fall, the most the program has ever had. The homestand continues with matches against Youngstown State (Sept. 7) and cross-town rival UAlbany (Sept. 9). The Green and Gold hit the road for the first time Sept. 12 at Vermont, before returning to Loudonville for a home date Sept. 14 against Quinnipiac. Siena competes in the highly anticipated Governors Cup in nearby Albany Sept. 19-21 with matches against Sacred Heart and Army. The non-conference schedule concludes with a date at Holy Cross (Sept. 24) to be followed by home games against Long Island (Sept. 26) and Wagner (Sept 28). Conference play begins with a three game road trip which commences with an always challenging trip to Buffalo for games against Niagara (Oct. 3) and Canisius (Oct. 5) before concluding at defending regular season champion Marist on Oct. 10. The Saints welcome Iona and Fairfield to Loudonville for the first wave of home MAAC games beginning on Oct. 17, before closing road competition with a pair of game scheduled at St. Peter's (Oct. 24) and Manhattan (Oct. 26). The regular season ends with a pair of home games on Halloween afternoon against Rider to be followed by Senior Day on Nov. 2 against defending MAAC Tournament Champion Loyola.
For the first time ever, Siena College will host the 2008 MAAC Women's Soccer Tournament Nov. 7-9. The top-4 teams in the ten team league will qualify for the tournament with the winner receiving an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. |
