Men's Tennis falls to undefeated Drake, 6-1

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Southern Illinois University men's tennis team fell to Drake Saturday, 6-1. The Bulldogs are currently undefeated and nationally ranked at No. 43. The Bulldogs (20-0, 4-0 MVC) swept the Salukis (7-11, 0-3) in doubles, to gain a 1-0 lead. Lucas Waked and Anton Leonenko battled at No. 1 doubles, but fell to Dalibor Pavic and Maor Zirkin, 8-6. Mariano Restrepo and Sebastian Rubiano teamed up at No. 2 doubles, but were unable to hold off Mauricio Ballivian and Ivan Mendoza, falling 8-4. At No. 3 doubles, Drake's Bokang Setshogo and Ricardo Lau grabbed the win over Chase Miller and Hugo Vidal, 8-5. In singles action, Waked battled No. 68 ranked Pavic at the top seed, but fell 6-1, 6-2. Vidal dropped his match at No. 2 singles to Zirkin, 6-2, 6-1. Restrepo grabbed the only win for the Salukis, with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) victory at No. 3 singles against Lau. Leonenko played a tough match at No. 4 singles against Ballivian, falling 7-5, 6-1. Rubiano played Setshogo at the No. 5 spot, but fell 6-4, 6-1. Miller rounded out the match at No. 6 singles against Mendoza, dropping the match, 6-1, 6-2. The Salukis will be back in action Sunday, as they take on Creighton. Match time is set for 10 a.m. in Omaha, Neb. #43 Drake 6, Southern Illinois 1
