OMAHA, Neb. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team finished in second place after three tough days of competition at the 2008 Missouri Valley Conference Championship.

"It was a tough day to say the least," said head coach Diane Daugherty. "We were really right in there at the turn. We were nine down and got back to within three, but we didn't finish strong. We finished strong the last two days, but not today."

The Salukis posted a three-round total of 952 (310-307-335) to finish behind champion Illinois State (311-305-325--941).

"It's disappointing because we were in first after day one and down only one stroke after day two," said Daugherty. "We're disappointed right now because we didn't win, but we are in second and there are eight teams behind us that would love to be in second."

Kate Laegeler led the Salukis, finishing the tournament in fifth place with a 236 (75-78-83). Kelly Gerlach finished just behind Laegeler in sixth with a 237 (75-76-86--237).

Lauren May finished the three-day event tied for 11th with a 241 (78-76-87). Rounding out SIU's scoring was Braidy Hood with a 243 (82-77-84), placing her in 18th place.

Also competing for the Salukis were Christine Zoerlein (t30th, 86-85-82--253) and Danielle Kaufman (55th, 93-84-88--265).
