CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois softball team (24-16, 10-4 MVC) earned a doubleheader split against Evansville Wednesday afternoon at Charlotte West Stadium. The Salukis fell, 5-0, in game one, but came-from-behind to take game two, 5-3, and win the season-series 2-1.

SIU stranded seven baserunners and struck out eight times in the opening game loss, which snapped its season-long eight-game winning streak, but battled back with a game two victory behind a pair of 3-for-3 performances by junior catcher Jayme Wamsley and senior leftfielder Tiffanie Dismore.

Freshman Danielle Glosson also threw a complete-game four-hitter with four strikeouts to earn her fifth win of the season in the second game.

The Salukis will stay at home this weekend for a three-game series against Missouri Valley Conference rival Creighton. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m., and concludes with a single game on Sunday at noon. Saturday will also be Senior Day for the Salukis' five seniors.

Evansville 5 Southern Illinois 0
The Salukis found themselves down early 1-0 in the top of the first, after UE's Brittnay Herald hit a run-scoring single to right field.

The run was deemed unearned though, because the throw from right field to get Krista Price out at the plate sailed over catcher Jayme Wamsley's head.

The unearned run ended SIU's streak of four-straight shutouts, which tied a school record.

Following the opening inning run, the game stayed 1-0 until the Purple Aces broke open the tight contest with a four-run top of the sixth inning.

Herald led-off the inning with her seventh home run of the year on an opposite-field line-drive to left field, and four batters later with two runners on, and two outs, third baseman Lissa Fehlman hit a three-run homer to make the eventual final score, 5-0.

The Salukis racked-up seven hits in the game, but ultimately were unable to move runners along on the basepaths.

Evansville starter Jacki Bradley, who SIU defeated in last week's 2-0 win at Evansville, earned her eighth win of the season in the complete-game effort.

Freshman Nikki Waters took the loss to fall to 12-9 on the season.

Southern Illinois 5 Evansville 2
Southern Illinois trailed, 3-2, but plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth en route to winning game two, 5-3.

With runners on first and second and two outs, sophomore second baseman Alicia Garza crushed the eventual game-winning two-RBI double off the left-field wall to give the Salukis the lead, 4-3.

Garza advanced to third on the same play, and scored an insurance run on a RBI-single by senior outfielder Tiffanie Dismore to put SIU up, 5-3, heading into the top of the seventh.

Freshman starting pitcher Danielle Glosson retired the Purple Aces in order to close out the comeback win.

SIU started the game down 1-0 after Brittnay Herald hit her second home run of the doubleheader to left field, but battled back to take the lead, 2-1, on a bottom of the second two-run homer by junior catcher Jayme Wamsley.

After scoreless third and fourth innings, UE plated two more runs on a sacrifice fly by Krista Price, and a run-scoring single by Kristen Shirk to regain the lead, 3-2, before the Salukis' late-game rally.

Dismore, who had not started a game since breaking her jaw against Northwestern on March 2, had a stellar return to the Saluki lineup with three hits, RBI and stolen base.

Wamsley also tied a career-high with three hits, and recorded her second multiple RBI game of the season.
