NEW ORLEANS - For the second consecutive game Southern Miss could not overcome a three-run inning against Tulane as the Golden Eagles fall 4-2 to the Green Wave at Turchin Stadium Saturday night. "We simply could not get a timely hit tonight, we had our opportunities but could not get the runs home," head coach Corky Palmer said. "This has been our main problem all season long, finding a player that can deliver in a key situation." Southern Miss starter Todd McInnis gave up four runs in 3.1 innings, including a three run third inning, while striking out six. Wade Weathers was outstanding out of the bullpen for the Golden Eagles, throwing 4.2 innings to finish the game, allowing only one hit. He gave the Southern Miss hitters every opportunity to get back into the game, setting down 12 straight Green Wave hitters at one point. Southern Miss scored their only two runs on a two-run home run by Trey Cuevas in the third inning. Tulane struck for the games first run in the bottom of the second as Sam Honeck drew a walk and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Warren McFadden for a 1-0 lead. Southern Miss took the first their first lead of the series in the top of the third inning on a Trey Cuevas two-run home run over the left field wall, scoring Brian Dozier who doubled earlier in the inning. For Cuevas it was his fourth home run of the year to put the Golden Eagles on top 2-1. The Green Wave answered right back retake the lead in the bottom of the third on a RBI double by Seth Henry scoring Anthony Scelfo to tie the game. Henry then came around to score on a RBI single by Rob Segedin to put the Green Wave on top. Sam Honeck added a two-out RBI single to make the score 4-2.
