HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Former Southern Miss defensive back Brandon Sumrall (Beaumont, Miss.) will participate in the Texas Vs. The Nation football game, which is slated for Saturday, at 4 p.m. (CT), at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas. The game will be televised nationally on CSTV (Comcast Digital Channel 735 in Hattiesburg) and feature one roster of all Texas-bred players versus a team from the rest of the country. Sumrall is the only player from a Mississippi institution to play in the game. A four-year letterwinner for the Golden Eagles, Sumrall tallied 272 career tackles (181 solos), 12 interceptions, 16 passes broken up, nine forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 10 tackles for loss and four sacks in 48 career games played. His forced fumbles total mark tied for most in school history for a career. Known for his hard-hitting style, Sumrall notched 98 tackles during his senior campaign last fall to go along with six interceptions - including two against Memphis in which one went for 82 yards and a touchdown - eight passes broken up, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, five tackles for loss and one sack. Sumrall was a three-time All-Conference USA selection and made the first team by both the coaches and media in 2007.
