Mobile, Ala. - The Southern Miss men's golf team shot a final round 291 to finish with 903 strokes and a sixth-place finish at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. The tournament, which was hosted by the University of South Alabama, was played at Heron Lakes Country Club in Mobile, Ala. Junior Rocky Cleland led the Golden Eagles with an eight-over par 224 to finish in a tie for 16th-place. Redshirt sophomore Paul Apyan shot a final round 72 to finish with 228 strokes and a 32nd-place tie. Sophomores Wes Carter and Alex Park tied for 36th with 229 strokes. Senior Kyle Ramey shot a final round 75 to finish in a tie for 41st-place with 231 strokes. Freshman Derek Plucienski, playing as an individual, tied for 55th-place with 277 strokes Louisville won the team competition with a nine-over par 873. UT-Chattanooga finished four strokes back in second place with 877 strokes. Memphis finished third with 879 strokes, while Mississippi State finished in fourth place at 886 strokes. Host South Alabama earned a fifth place finish with 895 strokes, and Southern Miss had 903 for a sixth place finish. Eastern Michigan finished seventh with 907 strokes, followed by South Florida (915), Xavier (921), Hartford (929), Mercer (935) and Davidson (939). Louisville's Adam Rainaud took the individual competition, as he shot a one-under 215. South Alabama's Daniel Burns and Derek Fathauer shot a one-over 217 to tie for second place.
Southern Miss returns to the links next week, when they travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. for the Middle Tennessee/Aldila Intercollegiate. The tournament takes place next Monday and Tuesday, March 31-April 1, at Old Fort Golf Course. |
