HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's golf team will be represented at the 2008 Southern Amateur Championship, being played July 16-19 at Lake Nona Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.

Paul Apyan, West Carter, Rocky Cleland, Freddie Janneck and Derek Plucienski will vie for the 102nd tournament championship.

"I am certainly proud for these young men to go participate in such a prestigious event as the Southern Amateur," said Southern Miss head coach Jerry Weeks. "The experience that they will gain will certainly pay dividends this coming year."

The Golden Eagles are coming off a season that saw them finish second at the Conference USA Championships. Apyan finished the year with six top 20 finishes, including a season-best second place finish at the C-USA Championships. Carter finished third on the team with a 74.0 stroke average and four top 20 finishes, while Cleland also finished with four top 20 finishes.
