HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team lost to South Alabama, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon at the Hattiesburg Country Club. The Golden Eagles opened doubles play, winning at No. 3 doubles, as Oscar Machuca and Strate Krstevski defeated O'Brien and Aaron Krisan, 8-4. But the Jaguars rebounded to take wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Jack Baker and R.J. Nagel downed Jan Burmeister and Aaron Poole, 9-7, then clinched the doubles point when Robert Hodel and Marek Sramek defeated Diego Machuca and Markus Wesssinghage, 8-6. Southern Miss evened the match at one when Krstevski defeated O'Brien, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. However, South Alabama won three straight matches to win the match. Wessinghage earned the Golden Eagles other point with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Krisan. Southern Miss returns to action tomorrow when the Golden Eagles face Southern at 1:00 p.m. (CT) at the Hattiesburg Country Club.
