March 28, 2008 HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team earned its second win in as many days, winning a tightly contested match over Southeastern Louisiana Friday afternoon at the Hattiesburg Country Club. The Golden Eagles opened play by taking the doubles point. No. 2 doubles pair Andrew Poole and Jan Burmeister defeated Medhi Darlis and Jakub Kwasniewicz, 8-3. Oscar Machuca and Strate Krstevski clinched the doubles point for the Southern Miss, 8-3, over Pavol Derkay and Alexis Biarniex at No. 3 doubles. Markus Wessinghage and Diego Machuca closed doubles play with an 8-4 victory over Matthieu Leboucher and Julien Roussel at No. 1 doubles. The Lions opened singles play by tying the match at one when Leboucher beat Poole in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 1 singles. Southern Miss took the next two points, as Wessinghage won his No. 5 singles match over Derkay, 6-1, 6-3 and Oscar Machuca beat Darlis 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. SELA pulled within one when Biarniex defeated Diego Machuca at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-1. However, Krstevski clinched the match for the Golden Eagles, earning a 7-6, 6-0 victory over Kwasniewicz at No. 6 singles. Roussel closed the match with a win for the Lions, defeating Burmeister, 7-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Southern Miss returns to action this Sunday, March 30, when they travel to Troy for a 1:00 p.m. (CT) match.
