HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The Southern Miss men's tennis team opened its fall season, posting 11 wins in singles and two wins in doubles.

Strate Krstevski defeated Marko Zivkovic (Troy), 6-1, 6-2, and Victor Wibreus (UALR), 6-1, 6-4. Oscar Machuca knocked off Guilherme Sahadhi (Troy), 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, and Edson Abrao (UALR), 4-1, retired.

Domagoj Anic defeated Benjamin Chomette (Troy), 6-1, 1-6, 6-3; Alex Arendt defeated Bastian Maucher (Troy), 6-3, 6-4, while Markus Wessinghage defeated Diego Martinez (Troy), 6-0, 6-2. Callen Fraychineaud downed Dai Edwards-Evans (Troy), 7-5, 4-6, 6-1, while Will Thames defeated Igor Nikitin (Troy), 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Wade Covington lost to (Edwin Van Aerts (Troy), 6-4, 6-2. Wessinghage lost to Marko Ballok (UALR), 6-4, 6-2. Anic lost to Rain Rogios (UALR), 7-5, 6-4, while Arendt lost to German Perez (UALR), 7-5, 7-5; Fraychineaud lost to Juan Carlos Nunez (UALR), 6-2, 7-5. Covington lost to Dorian Sovic (UALR), 6-2, 6-1. Thames lost to Edwin Van Aerts (Troy), 7-6, 6-1.

Andrew Poole defeated Diego Martinez (Troy), 6-0, 6-2, but lost to Houssan Yassine (Alabama), 6-3, 6-3. Diego Machuca defeated Guilherme Sahadhi (Troy), 6-1, 6-2, and lost to Saketh Myneni (Alabama), 7-5, 6-1.
 

 

In doubles, Wessinghage and Krstevski lost to Ballok and Victory Wibreus (Troy), 8-6, while Covington and Fraychineaud lost to Pavol Derkay and Jakub Kwasniewiez (SLU), 8-2. Anic and Arendt defeated Myneni and Yassine (Alabama), 8-6; and Diego and Oscar Machuca downed Robert Hodel and Aaron Krisan (South Alabama), 8-6.

Tennis action gets underway at 8 a.m., with doubles being played at the Racquet Club and Hattiesburg Country Club. All the singles' play will be played at the Hattiesburg Club, beginning around 10 a.m.
